2005 DuPratt Vineyard Chardonnay (Mendocino Ridge,
CA) - Luscious Chardonnay that is full bodied, supple, and relatively
elegant in style. It has a crisp acidity, complex character (baked bread, roasted
nut, lemon peel, butterscotch, and spicy oak aromas/flavors), and a long finish.

Raspberry, black cherry, coffee, vanilla, cocoa and baking spice. The body is

cinnamon spice flavors come together nicely and finish warmly and dusty. Excellent
value ($12). Closure: Real cork. Alcohol content: 13.5%. Food pairing: Chicken
Tortilla Soup, medium-hot spicy.

2005 Syrah, Clearlake - 87 POINTS -
Chocolate notes are a nice touch to the wild berry flavors within. Spices, loam and hints of fresh thyme are tasty and aromatic, with firm tannins that never overwhelm, even on the long finish. Drink now through 2012. 2,000 cases made.
2005 Shooting Star Syrah, Lake County - 83 POINTS
Steele Chardonnay
Sangiacomo Vineyard 2000 - 90 POINTS -

Steele Chardonnay, Lolonis Vineyard, Mendocino County
- 87 Points - Medium-bodied and lightly oaked, with
hints of pear, citrus and melon, picking up a trace of marshmallow on the finish.
Steele Pinot Noir Carneros 2001 - 88
POINTS - A streak of herb and wild berry runs through
this firmly tannic youngster, but it slowly unfolds to reveal
a core of complexity and depth that should reward short-term
cellaring. Best from 2005 though 2009. Wine

Steele Chardonnay, DuPratt Vineyard 2004 - 93 Points -
Aromas of honeysuckle, spiced apple and melon are rich and
polished on the palate, offering hints of maturity, with the
light cedary oak folded in nicely. The delicious after
taste keeps pumping out rich, unctuous flavors. Drink
now through 2009.
From Wine Enthusiast
Steele 2004 DuPratt Vineyard Chardonnay (Mendocino
Ridge, CA) – 92 Points - There aren’t a lot of wines coming off this
appellation, and most of them are red. But this is a wonderful Chard. Ripe and
detailed, it combines tropical fruit, mineral and oak flavors, and is dry and tart
in acids. This is one of the few California Chardonnays I would age for up to ten
years.
Steele 2004 Bien Nacido Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa
Barbara County, CA) – 92 Points - Plenty of richness here, mangoes,
pineapple custard, Key lime pie, not to mention smoky, caramelly, butterscotchy
oak, but there’s also a streamlined, sleek minerality that leaves a lip-smacking
steely feeling behind. Part of that is acidity. Really fine wine.
