    Vineyards

The philosophy at Steele Wines has always been to produce the highest quality wine that we could. Since we have selected some of California’s finest vineyards to provide us with the best grapes possible it should be easy to make the best wine each year. However, Mother Nature always rules and even in a good vintage from a good vineyard we may have wines which we feel are not up to the quality for a bottling under the Steele label. Sometimes we find that some of our lots of Pinot Noir from Sangiacomo are not as concentrated as we liked so we again allowed a Shooting Star bottling of Carneros Pinot Noir.

    Winemaking

We used a combination of French and American oak barrels. Because we felt that this wine would always be for Shooting Star, we did not use as much new oak as we do for Steele and the overall percentage of new oak is about 15%.

    Food Pairing

This is a lighter wine, which has the characteristic cherry fruit and low tannins of Pinot noir. This is definitely a quaffing wine and not a wine for long term cellaring. Enjoy this wine with lighter foods, picnic fare or just on its own.
